Food safety in Uzbekistan

On September 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting at which issues of ensuring food abundance and stable pricing were discussed, the press-service of the head of state reported.

Issues such as maintaining farms by transferring additional land to them by reducing the acreage for cotton and wheat were discussed at the video-selector meeting. According to this program, this year and next, the authorities will allocate about 120,000 hectares, which makes it possible to create more than a million jobs.

The need of citizens for various food products has been assessed, and measures have been outlined to provide the population with them in the required quantity. In addition, goods have been identified, the need for which is covered by imports; it has been decided to localize their production in the country to fully meet demand.

The conditions for increasing the issuance of loans to farmers and producers of food products for the purchase of seeds, agricultural machinery, fuel and lubricants, and pest protection products are planned. The state has expressed its readiness to take on up to half of the amount of crop insurance.

The President ordered the heads of the regions to create the necessary number of warehouses for storing seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as to increase the land for the cultivation of fruit and vegetable crops.

The topics of seed harvesting, creation of vegetable nurseries, stabilization of food prices, as well as the launch of profitable loans for the purchase of agricultural vehicles, processing and packaging lines were discussed.
